My Hot Take on Society

My hot take on society is that there is no “good” and there is no “bad.”

Imagine you are a game designer in charge of designing the game of life. You pull out a stark, white poster board and a thick black Sharpie. Let’s start with the rules. You think. And you think. You start to write one down, but then scribble over it. There are people who live as an exception to this rule. As you reflect, you realize you can imagine people who live as an exception to every single rule you think of! To your dismay, there are no rules to the game of life! Let’s move onto another aspect of every game, then: the objective. This is point-blank. Should be easy. However, for each minute you sit and ponder, the stark, white poster board grows more and more blinding. Eventually, you chuck it to the floor, filled with frustration at a game that exists in real life but refuses to exist on paper. With no rules and no objective, how do you play the game of life?? The key is, you simply experience. 

Many people play this game. They are born, withstand obstacles, change, grow, meet other players, gather accomplishments, and overall, just experience. Eventually, they die and their game is over. With no guidelines to this very vague, very omniscient game, some players begin to label certain actions, products, people, and food as “good” or “bad.” As if everything they see needs a label of judgment. However, if we think back to a game without any rules or even an overall objective, how can you determine what is “good” and what is “bad”? These labels mean nothing in the grand scheme of life, however, individuals in society give them so much weight. I render them useless. When every experience in this game of life is equal, how can you magically order them from “good” to “bad?” Give certain experiences more importance over others? You can’t! Therefore, my hot take on society is that societal labels are bull. shit. Live your life HOWEVER you want! That’s the beauty of a game with no rules!
