The Ultimate Balancing Act

I feel like everything in life is about finding balance. Balance between happiness and sadness. Stress and Contentment. Routine and spontaneity. Exercise and rest. Sleep and consciousness. Peace and drive for improvement. And infinite more.

The thing that makes everyone different is the exact calculations we need to feel balanced. As we go through life, we constantly test our calculations. How much sleep do I need to not feel like shit when I wake up? How much sadness can I endure without ending up depressed? How much pressure can I handle before cracking?

Life, from what I’ve experienced, is about finding balance in each of these aspects. And as I bet you all can confirm, the line for balance is paper thin. A teetering tightrope suspended above a luminous pit – if you will. The utmost challenge, though, is that as we are trying to find our balance on this tightrope, things are unexpectedly thrown at us to try to push us off balance. If we let it, we are left startled and swaying dangerously back and forth until we regain balance again.

I believe that over time, we get quicker and quicker at regaining our balance because each time, we learn more about the calculations that make us feel balanced. We experience the things that push us and we make note of them, modify our calculations, and continue. Each time something gets thrown at us, we get stronger. We constantly test our limits until we find the calculation that means balance for each aspect of our lives.

Not really sure what message this post is supposed to share, but I just find it fascinating how people could be striving for happiness or success or wealth all their life, but as we’ve seen and heard, too much of anything is not a good thing. In reality, we all should be striving for balance. A mix of the good and the bad. A mix of too much and too little. Just right for just us.
